sac, the Scott Adams Compiler, is a Perl program that compiles adventure games from a simple human-readable format into the form understood by widely-distributed drivers such as scottfree. It's freely distributed, under the GNU GPL, as the CPAN module Games::ScottAdams.
Since I discovered the CPAN search site, and the nice way it maintains distribution histories and online documentation, that seems the best way to get the most up-to-date versions of those things: search.cpan.org/~mirk/Games-ScottAdams
