Marriage Preparation

The Course

This is a short marriage-preparation course, intended to be run across three evening sessions. It's the joint work of Mike and Fiona Taylor who, as we write this, are approaching our tenth wedding anniversary despite having been blessed with three children!

The areas we cover in the three sessions are:

• Foundations, including the biblical basis of marriage, recognising each other's differing needs, handling money and some quiz questions.

• Conflict, including how to avoid it in the first place, how to resolve it when it happens, and coping with each other's families.

• Sex, including Children: a long-range warning.

Book Recommendations

It's hard to recommend books on marriage, because they are mostly either patronising, saccharine, vague or all three. However, Fiona quite likes:

• The Marriage Book by Nicky and Sila Lee.

• His Needs, Her Needs by ###, although all the ``love bank'' stuff is hideous.

• Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by ###.

(Mike doesn't like any of them much, but admits to having found His Needs, Her Needs quite interesting.)
